Those really in the know (we see you, @nantucketblackbook) call it #daffy15. We know it as the Nantucket Daffodil Festival, the island’s annual spring coming out party, a weekend full of all things yellow, blooming, and joyous. And it’s this weekend, April 24-26.
This gorgeous coastal getaway is glorious on any day year-round, but we do love how the community (led by the high-spirited Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce) throws a party that’s fun for locals, overnight guests, and day-trippers. Everything at #daffy15 is free and open to the public. And there’s so much to do: tours, workshops, a weekend-long scavenger hunt, special shopping events, a flower show, a 5K, and parades, parades, parades.
The Antique Car Parade is a must-do (more than 100 daffo-decked vintage cars rolling the cobblestones of the village), as is the splendid Tailgate Picnic at ‘Sconset at its conclusion. (This year’s picnic theme is “In the Heart of the Sea.” We approve.)
And of course, it being Nantucket, there’s a Daffy Dog parade. And a Daffy Hat Parade (they’re both on Saturday).
Ready to go? Here’s a page with how to get to the island by sea and air for the day. Want to spend the whole weekend? The Chamber’s Web site has a page that shows what’s still available for overnights, or you can call Visitor Services at 508-228-0925. Bring your best hat… we know we are.
